Travel Apps
A well-rounded travel journey is about balancing the excitement of exploration with the comfort of preparedness, creating unforgettable moments that enrich your life. Explore websites, apps, and AI to enhance your local and far away travel plans. With that in mind, Chris Knotts presented a discussion of several applications that can assist your future travel. It was a great presentation -- thank you Chris -- that ~65 people were able to attend. Unfortunately, it was not recorded so only the slides are available for your viewing.
Sun City TV - SCTV
From concept to camera to control room to cable TV and more, learn how our Sun City TV (SCTV) crew creates programming for a network and YouTube station. After they take you through the process, you could be ready for your own TV production. This presentation was held in Pinckney Hall at 10 am on April 25 and included the SCTV Executive Producer, Vice Chair, and Georgia Lash. Click the links below for the recording and Slides.
Tom Dodrill gave an overview of Google Script, a cloud-based scripting tool which allows you to create, automate, integrate and modify, tasks within the Google workspace such as Google Sheets, Docs, Forms, Gmail, Calendar and more. You can design custom workflows to automate tasks such as creating and emailing documents and entering events on Google Calendar based on a Google Form, create custom menus for functions in Sheets, Docs and others. No programming knowledge needed - and it's Free!
Unfortunately we had some technical difficulties and the video recording stopped at about 30 minutes. However, Tom also mentioned that he is planning on having several classes on Google Script in the future.
Staying Safe While Online
Noah Rosenstein discussed Staying Safe While Online. Regardless if you are a PC, Mac, Android, or iPhone user, his presentation was of equal interest. His presentation was a shortened and updated version of his recent 2-hour class on the same topic and will focus on avoiding scams you receive as a phone call, an email, or a text -- what to look for. At the end of the day, it's all up to you. There is no silver bullet application that alone can prevent being scammed.
There were no slides -- only a video recording. Click on the link below.
AI for Everday Life
In 1994, there was a song called Love is All Around. In 2025, it could be re-written that AI is all around. But what is AI and what can it do for you? Ron Snyder spoke about "AI for Everyday Life." He talked about the history and plans forward for AI and how it can be used in your life -- e.g. setting up a weekly menu and recipes, summarize a document, etc. The recording and slides are available below.
Home Automation
We had our first session in 2025 of the Computer Club Hour (CCH) on Friday, Jan 10, at Pinckney Hall - 10 AM. Tom Dodrill presented on Home Automation - door bells, cameras, cloud vs. local storage, lighting, etc.
